I’m interested in people; in relationships and capturing intimate moments that contemplate daily rituals. Thinking about why people do the things they do and the consequences of their actions. Generally I explore these fascinations in the medium of painting; oils and acrylics, but recently have began working with etching, cast and stained glass.
I’m a UK based artist from Florida, USA where I graduated Cum Laude with a BFA from the University of Florida in 2004. I taught Art and Biology at Ft. Lauderdale High School before moving to London to complete an MA from Sotheby’s Institute of Art. Internships at PhotoLondon and London Art Fair lead to working in Events Management to fund my practice. A collaboration with technologist Stef Lewandowski at The Three Beards 2013 ArtHack produced the project Cryptographics. It was exhibited at both the South Place Hotel, London and Hack the Barbican, Barbican Centre, London (2013). In December 2013 I was an AIR at Ne-Na’ Contemporary Art Space, Chiang Mai, Thailand. Most recently I completed a 6 month AIR at Ocean Studios, Plymouth.
My passion and experience with science and technology have informed the artwork work I produce culminating in the Screenlight series. To date it is a piece which is made up of portraits painted in acrylic on canvas depicting the intimate relationship between devices and their users in a world which is increasingly reliant on digital communication. Screenlight has been shown at the Window Gallery, Canary Wharf, London (2014), at the MANPOWER Festival in Lisbon, Portugal (2014) and at Schwartz Gallery, London (2015).
In the past 5 months I’ve been evolving the Screenlight concept and my aesthetic to include the mediums of oil painting, photo-polymer etching, cast and stained glass.
